Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach

We recently toured the third annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House located in a plantation-style estate in West Palm Beach’s South End neighborhood. The house, owned by famed interior designer Lars Bolander, features 19 of the most prominent design firms from around the country, including several from South Florida, who transformed the home’s spaces with their unique and sophisticated styles.
In just under three months, the talented group designed each room of the remarkable 8,751-square-foot home inspired by South African and Dutch architecture. The home features four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a great room with vaulted ceilings and French doors that open up to an expansive loggia, and a spacious kitchen with an adjacent outdoor dining terrace. The home’s large master suite offers sprawling garden and pool views. The estate also boasts two guest houses, a pool house, and an expansive private garden with lush tropical flora for the ultimate outdoor living and entertaining experience.
Design enthusiasts and novices alike will be inspired by the level of creativity and imagination on display through unexpected wall treatments, beautiful furnishings and an array of bold colors.
The Kips Bay Decorator Show House is open now through Sunday, March 1st. The event benefits both Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and Boys and the Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.

OBR Team Takes the Brightline to Visit Restoration Hardware

If you live or work in Miami, the thought of driving at least an hour to get to West Palm Beach is enough to discourage many from making the trip north. But all that changed with Brightline, the new high-speed passenger railroad by All Aboard Florida that connects passengers to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and, you guessed it, West Palm Beach.

For our annual summer team bonding outing, we decided to check out the highly-talked about train for ourselves, so we booked our tickets and headed north. We departed from Brightline’s Miami station, MiamiCentral, and arrived in West Palm an hour and a half later. Centrally located, the train dropped us off walking distance to all of West Palm’s downtown shops and restaurants.

Our reason for visiting WPB was to check out the relatively new Restoration Hardware mansion-like gallery and have lunch at the rooftop restaurant. We spent some time admiring the beautiful décor before heading up to the fourth floor for lunch.

Bright whites, opulent chandeliers, marble table tops, and gold, and wood accents make the rooftop space feel ultra-lux – not to mention the large glass atrium letting in an abundance of natural light. The menu didn’t miss a beat either. Our team each ordered something different, but the one thing we all couldn’t resist were the fries! Zero complaints about the food and design eye-candy at this venue.

We spent the rest of the afternoon strolling through Flagler Park and Clematis Street before hopping back on the train to Miami. It was nice to have a relaxing day out of the office with our incredible team! We highly recommend you check it out for yourself!

PCCSF Treats South Florida Toddler for the Flu

Pediatric Critical Care of South Florida’s Dr. Allan Greissman shared with Local 10 News the story of Michael, a 3-year-old Ft. Lauderdale boy who recently underwent critical treatment for the flu.

During this deadly flu season, the CDC is reporting 53 child deaths and is warning that we have not seen the worst of it yet. According to Dr. Greissman, the most common reason for a child with the flu to be admitted to PCCSF is high-grade fever or dehydration. Michael, like many patients who are admitted to PCCSF, began to suffer from “end-organ disease” as he fought off the flu.

Michael is a reminder of how dangerous this flu season is and the importance of getting the flu shot.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Michael celebrated his 3rd birthday at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the pediatric unit of Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

His mom said he first got a rash and complained of joint pain. Then he had a fever. Eventually, tests showed the toddler was infected with an aggressive form of the flu.

“Michael had a lot of what we call ‘end organ disease.’ It affected his neurological status, it affected his heart,” Dr. Allan Greissman said. “It affected his kidneys, it affected his lungs and it affected his liver.”

Greissman, a pediatric critical care specialist at Pediatric Critical Care of South Florida at the hospital, said Michael is recovering, but Dylan Winnick was not so lucky. The 12-year-old from West Palm Beach is among the 53 other children who have died of the flu around the nation. The Centers for Disease Control had bad news again Friday. The flu season has intensified and there are more weeks of suffering ahead.

One of every 14 visits to doctors and clinics were for fever, cough and other symptoms of the flu. That’s the highest level since the swine flu pandemic in 2009. Last week, 42 states reported high patient traffic for the flu, up from 39.

Hospital stays because of the flu also increased.

Why Amazon Should Choose Miami for HQ2

Yesterday, it was announced that Miami made Amazon’s top 20 list of potential cities for its second headquarters, HQ2. The new facility will cost at least $5 billion to construct and operate and will create as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs. Home to a diverse population that is entrepreneurial by nature, here’s why we think Miami is the perfect spot for Amazon’s HQ2:

– Jeff Bezos is a Miami Palmetto Senior High alumnus! In 1982, he was valedictorian, a National Merit Scholar and Silver Knight award winner, and he was already beginning to make big plans for his future. I guess you can say Miami molded him for success, so this is his opportunity to give back!

– Miami’s startup sector is booming! Just last year, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area ranked No. 1 among 40 of the largest metro areas in the country for startups.

– With over 2,000 daily nonstop flights to major cities across the United States and the world, Miami is considered one of the country’s most well-connected cities.

– With proximity and access to major markets, Miami’s multilingual workforce understands global business. Businesses in a multicultural city, like Miami, can draw employees from different backgrounds and experiences to create innovative ideas.

– Florida’s new Brightline regional train system will connect Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach enabling passengers (and potential employees) to commute faster throughout South Florida.

– Home to hundreds of thousands of college students, Miami appeals to a vibrant millennial community. By being connected to the Internet throughout childhood and early adulthood, Millennials have a different perspective on how to lead, communicate and market.

As Amazon aims to stay competitive in the global marketplace, they should focus on a diverse, metropolitan region like Miami. With its history of welcoming all nationalities and languages, Miami is positioned to continue growing, and we hope it will do so with Amazon in its backyard.

Stantec Set to Design Park-Line Miami and WPB Interiors

lobby1_no-peopleStantec has been selected to design the interiors for upcoming Park-Line residential projects in West Palm Beach and Miami.

Park-Line West Palm is expected to be completed next year while Park-Line Miami, which will rise at MiamiCentral, is slated for completion in 2019. Both projects are located next to new All Aboard Florida Brightline Express Train stations, which will run between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and, eventually, Orlando.

The design concept for Park-Line Miami is “the timeless traveler,” as the release states, with “rich leathers inspired by antique luggage and travel bags, warm woods, creamy neutral tones, and deep blues are incorporated to create a sophisticated and inviting environment.”

Stantec will design Park-Line Miami’s lobby, residential units, and curate the furniture for the amenity deck, the latter including a yoga pavilion, a dog park, a running track, a movie screening area, and a resort-style pool. The twin towers have just begun vertical construction.

For Park-Line West Palm Beach, the project will feature “tones of rich purple complemented by warmer tones of yellow” and a “dripping diamonds tile wall” that “gradients from purple to gold and silver tones.” Amenities there include a game room, a dog park, and a dog spa.
