SoLé Mia’s Free Construction Training Program Addresses Labor Shortage in Construction

In today’s tight labor market, construction firms are facing higher costs, longer time spent on projects, and more work for their builders. But some firms, like SoLé Mia, have setup pipeline programs in South Florida high schools to keep good recruits coming into the industry.

SoLé Mia partnered with CBT College to provide free construction training to North Miami Senior High School students, as an example of addressing the labor shortage in the construction industry. Much of their time in the program is spent doing hands-on training in not only construction, but also technology, plumbing, HVAC systems and REVIT 3D modeling.

SoLē Mia Continues Free Construction Training Program with CBT College for High School Students

Earlier this year, Oleta Partners, developer of SoLē Mia, launched a free construction training program with CBT College for North Miami Senior High School seniors. After five months of hands-on training, a total of 10 students successfully graduated from the pilot program in August with diplomas in Building Construction Technology. Due to its success, Oleta Partners is continuing the program with 15 new NMSHS seniors.

The program is part of Oleta Partners’ commitment to providing opportunities that support the local North Miami community and that promote the growth in the industry. The program will help address the shortage of skilled laborers plaguing the construction industry by fostering a new generation of qualified construction workers.

For the next six months, the students will take courses in Plumbing, Electricity & Systems, A/C Systems, Building Construction, and REVIT 3D Modeling, among others that will introduce them to the construction industry. Students will learn from experienced faculty and receive at least 50 percent hands-on training time in the school’s laboratories.

Once students have completed the program, they will have earned a total of 21 college credits and will receive a diploma in Building Construction Technology. With their training and diploma, they will be prepared to enter the workforce as building construction technicians or assistants.

Oleta Partners Announces Free Construction Training Program with CBT College

SoLē Mia‘s developer, Oleta Partners, has launched a free construction training program for North Miami Senior High School seniors with CBT College. Beginning March 5, 20 North Miami Senior High seniors will kick off the pilot program and will spend seven months completing courses in Building Construction Technology.

Oleta Partners, developers of the SoLe Mia community in North Miami, has partnered with CBT College to offer a free construction training program for high school seniors at North Miami Senior High School.

The seven-month program, which will be managed from the SoLe Mia Local Preference Office, will be held at CBT College’s Miami Gardens campus in North Miami. The program held its orientation ceremony on February 26th, at which 20 participating students and their parents meet with CBT College faculty and staff, Oleta Partners representatives, and local officials.

Oleta Partners, a partnership between LeFrak and Turnberry Associates, and CBT College aim to address the skilled labor shortage by preparing a new generation of qualified construction workers, who will in turn promote industry growth and support the local community. “The creation of workforce development programs allows us to positively impact this community long term,” says LeFrak’s Managing Director of Development & Acquisition, Michael Tillman. “This tailored program will equip students with the right skill sets to prepare them for a future career in construction.”
